The police officer from Mesa, Arizona, who fatally shot an unarmed man in January has been charged with second-degree murder, it was announced Friday night. Mesa County prosecutors charged Officer Philip Brailsford after 26 year old Daniel Shaver was shot and killed in a hotel room. County Attorney Bill Montgomery stated: “After carefully reviewing the relevant facts and circumstances, we have determined that the use of deadly physical force was not justified in this instance.” Shaver’s widow, Laney Sweet, said in later statements that Shaver was on a business trip in Mesa at the time of the shooting.
